How to deal with weak project management

A Stage 4 business has between 35-57 employees. Known as the Professional Stage, one of the top five challenges businesses of this size face is weak project management. A Stage 4 business must focus on implementing scalable processes and systems in order to keep pace with growth. That’s why it’s common for this challenge to arise at this point.

Typical Symptoms

The typical symptoms that can be found in a company that is struggling with weak project management include:

  • the company is missing deadlines

  • resources are not utilized well

  • project statuses are unclear

Key Elements to Address the Challenge

The Organizational ReWilding framework is composed of 11 Elements. Each one is integral to the health and full functioning of a business. When a business is struggling with weak project management, there are four elements that should be implemented to address the challenge.

  1. Identifying the Master Processes that impact project management and look to instill common methods and tools.

  2. Implementing Meeting Structures that encourage effective, project-related team meetings.

  3. Establishing Organizational Structure to help bring clarity to roles and responsibilities throughout the organization.

  4. Developing a Strong Management Team that employs a common project management system to ensure successful completion of projects.

Why this Challenge Must be Resolved

Weak project management threatens the health of companies in more ways than one. When clients experience varied or inconsistent results, the company will struggle to retain customers. On the employee side, there will be frustration with systems that aren’t working and processes that fail to deliver on the company’s promises, leading to problems with employee retention. Both of these things result in a company that can’t grow, and instead will slide back to a smaller stage where processes don’t have to be as scalable.
